Growth
Helichrysum italicum is a perennial plant that grows to a height of 60cm (24 inches) and a width of around 50cm (20 inches). Curry Plants adapt to poor soils, is drought tolerant and once established can cope with temperatures as low as -10°C / 14°F and as high as 30°C / 86°F.
Seedlings are commercially started in trays or small pots and are grown in greenhouses until after their first full winter. They can potentially flower in their first season but more often bloom during the second. If transplanting into a garden bed, wait until daytime temperatures are consistently above 15°C / 59°F.
From the second season onwards, pruning the plant back to the harder wood in late winter or early spring, encourages strong, new growth. Curry Plants leaves can be harvested from around 6-9 months but usually flowering may take as long as 15-18 months.
