Seeds For Sale: Buying All Types of Plant Seeds

At The Seed Vine, we have over 700 types of plant seeds for sale. And we are always looking for new suppliers and different plant varieties to provide our customers a unique range of growing options. We have the most unusual catalogue of plant seeds for sale on offer anywhere in Australia. And that is because we invest in quality seed suppliers around the world.

So let’s just cut to the chase…

Do You Have Any Seeds for Sale?

Prior to Covid-19, The Seed Vine was supplying seeds to over 90 countries and had almost thirty international suppliers. Whenever a customer asked if we could get it in, the answer was almost always yes. But throughout the pandemic, Australia’s Biosecurity regulations went from the strictest (and most respectable) in the world to almost non-existent.

Even now in 2024, a fully compliant seed order complete with a phytosanitary certificate is literally burned at entry. As a result, most of the world’s largest seeds suppliers have taken Australia off their shipping list.

Would you believe that Organic Vegetable seeds are no longer good enough to be imported into Australia? They must be treated with a chemical called Thiram which has been banned in the European Union because it was killing any birds that ate the seeds sown on the soil surface.

If you are growing any organic vegetables, we are definitely interested in buying any seeds you may have. Just be sure to keep some of those valuables for yourself.

Due to the tightening regulations, we decided to source from within Australia. To our surprise we have since found many local suppliers who have provided good quality plant seeds. And we are always looking for more. If you have ANY plant seeds for sale please continue on.

What Type of Plant Seeds?

To be honest, we aren’t very picky. We enjoy every plant that decorates our beautiful world and will often buy from most suppliers at least once. Just to find out if they could become a long-term source. A quick look through our store suggests that Trees, Flowers, Australian Natives and anything that is Edible is our highest priority. And while that is true, we are also looking for Bamboo, Succulents, Indoor Plants, Rare and Exotics and Medicinal Herb seeds for sale.

If your plant seed doesn’t fit in any of the categories above, we are definitely still interested. There are just a few conditions that we have for any seeds that we buy.

Conditions for Seeds for Sale

Having supplied plants and seeds for over ten years, The Seed Vine has developed a reputation of providing our customers with quality products for a reasonable price. During that time we have trashed so many of the seed packages that we have ordered, from both local sellers and international suppliers of high repute. That is because prior to making any of our seeds available for sale, we grow them first ourselves so that we can be sure that our customers will be satisfied.

With that experience, we have created a few conditions that not only helps to guide our suppliers, but increases our chance of buying quality seeds for our customers. Ultimately, we hope to find long-term suppliers, even if they are six years old and making pocket money from gathering seeds from under a tree.

The Seeds Should Be Dry

Our first priority is that the seeds for sale are supplied dry. Any residual moisture will prompt most seeds to start their growing cycle which will probably kill them if left in a plastic or paper bag. By the time we receive the moist seeds they will almost certainly have mold growing on them.

If the seeds are moist after collection, they can be left in a shady area to dry out for a day or two. Once they are dry to the touch they are usually ok. However, that can depend sometimes on the type of plant seeds you are drying. If you have any questions regarding your plant type please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Correct Plant Identification

To ensure we are buying and supplying the right plant seeds, we need to be sure of the plant where the seeds came from. We ask for photos of both the plant where the seeds where collected from and of the seeds themselves. It is fine if the supplier has used their own method to correctly identify the plant. We would just require any information that could help us to reach the same outcome.

Do you just have plenty of seeds and no idea what the plant is? Great. We would be happy to try and identify them by using a photos of both the plant and the seeds. One of our first methods is to upload the photo to PlantNet.

Decent Quantity of Seeds for Sale

Unless the seeds are quite large or are rare we generally require a minimum of 100 seeds with a preference towards 500+ seeds. For smaller seeds, a reasonable

This quantity lets us grow them first prior to selling to our customers.

A Fair and Reasonable Price

For the right seeds we are happy to a fair price. A premium is offered for clean seeds. Clean seeds is the term used when the seeds are provided with no loose chaff or tree debris. For some seeds, this can take additional time and appropriate tools

Convenient Payment Methods

The payment methods we use to pay our suppliers include Bank Transfer and PayPal. We also insist on paying extra for tracked shipping. Especially if the seeds are sensitive to temperatures where we may insist on Express shipping and/or posting on Mondays.

How to Start Selling Seeds

Start by looking at the plants in your backyard. You can find out when they may begin seeding. Find a website or pdf that has a guide to this. It may be easier to find information on when the plant flowers and that will be followed by pollination and then seeds. There is many great books on the subject of Seed Saving and Collection. We recommend this one…

After collecting the seeds, take a photo of the full plant, a photo of any flowers/ leaves and another of the seeds. Allow any moist seeds to air dry prior to storing them in a plastic ziplock bag.
