Spring Onions don’t need a lot of space to grow, so are suitable for container/pot growing, or small gaps in the garden, where not much else will fit. Spring Onions can even be regrown in a jar of water.

Growth

Spring Onion White Lisbon is usually grown as an annual, that reaches a height of around 30cm above ground. This variety stays quite long and slender for most of its growing period, however, develops a bulbous end as it reaches its most mature stages. The bulb is small and generally only grows to around a 2cm width (¾ inch). Germination to onion harvest time averages around 60-80 days, leaves can be harvested as early as 40 days.

Spring Onions can be grown in containers / pots easily as unlike many vegetables, they don’t require much space and have a very small root system. Do not plant onions or other members of their family such as garlic, leek, chives in the same location as the season before to avoid any disease development.
